WHO TO CALL FOR
MOLD TESTING IN OKC

Mold testing and mold remediation are two separate services performed by different professionals. We connect you with certified remediation contractors — but before remediation begins, you may need an independent mold inspection and test. Here's exactly who to call.

Why testing and remediation must be kept separate

Industry best practice — and many insurance policies — require that the company performing mold testing be completely independent from the company performing remediation. This prevents conflicts of interest where a remediator might exaggerate findings to increase their own scope of work. Always hire a separate inspector before and after remediation.

TYPES OF MOLD TESTING PROFESSIONALS

Not all mold inspectors are equal. Here's a breakdown of the different credential levels, what they can provide, and when to use each.

Industrial Hygienist (IH)

Most thorough — best for legal/insurance cases

The gold standard for mold assessment. A licensed Industrial Hygienist (IH) provides the most comprehensive evaluation, including detailed air sampling, surface testing, moisture mapping, and a formal written protocol. Their reports carry significant weight in legal disputes, insurance claims, and post-remediation clearance testing.

Best For:

  • Legal disputes or litigation
  • Insurance claims
  • Commercial properties
  • Severe or widespread mold
  • Post-remediation clearance
Typical Cost:$400–$1,200+

Certified Indoor Environmentalist (CIE / CIEC)

Strong alternative to full IH — highly qualified

CIECs require a four-year science degree and at least eight years of experience. They offer a wide range of indoor air quality consultation services and are often considered among the best for mold inspections. A strong alternative when a full IH isn't necessary.

Best For:

  • Comprehensive IAQ assessments
  • Residential and commercial
  • When IH cost is prohibitive
  • Complex moisture problems
Typical Cost:$300–$800

Certified Mold Inspector (CMI)

Good for most residential situations

A step below an IH in terms of thoroughness. CMIs can locate moisture sources and conduct mold tests, but their assessments are generally less detailed and less expensive. Their reports may not hold up as well in legal situations, but are suitable for most standard residential mold concerns.

Best For:

  • Standard residential mold concerns
  • Budget-conscious homeowners
  • Routine inspections
  • Pre-purchase due diligence
Typical Cost:$200–$500

Home Inspector

Basic initial screening only

A more basic and cost-effective option for an initial look. Home inspectors can flag suspicious mold growth and recommend further evaluation, but they lack the scientific depth to provide detailed testing or remediation protocols. Best used as a first step, not a final answer.

Best For:

  • Initial screening during home purchase
  • Low-cost first look
  • When you just need a visual check
Typical Cost:$100–$300 (add-on)

Environmental Testing Company

Independent lab testing — no conflict of interest

Some independent environmental consulting firms specialize in air quality and mold testing. The key is making sure they are not affiliated with any remediation company, to avoid conflicts of interest. Look for firms that only test and do not perform remediation.

Best For:

  • Objective third-party testing
  • Post-remediation verification
  • When you want no conflict of interest
Typical Cost:$200–$600

Your Doctor

For health-related documentation

If you or family members are experiencing symptoms potentially related to mold exposure (respiratory issues, allergies, headaches), a physician can document health impacts — which can be valuable if insurance claims or litigation are involved. Not a substitute for environmental testing.

Best For:

  • Documenting health symptoms
  • Insurance claims involving health
  • Litigation support
  • Allergy testing
Typical Cost:Varies (insurance may cover)
